Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and media personality Lauren Sanchez were spotted at the American Express Presents Carbone Beach party in Miami Gardens on Saturday night. The couple seemed excited to celebrate the F1 Miami Grand Prix, which took place the following day. Bezos, 59, was seen wearing a red polo, black pants, black sneakers, and round shades, while Sanchez, 53, opted for a flashy dress with a portrait of nature including trees, water and butterflies. They were photographed holding hands on the red carpet, enjoying a night out before the big race.
The American Express Presents Carbone Beach party is a popular event for celebrity sightings during the Miami Formula 1 weekend, which took place from May 4-7 this year. Jeff Bezos, accompanied by his partner Lauren Sanchez, also attended the event and the couple looked thrilled to be celebrating race day together. Bezos and Sanchez made their relationship public in 2019, after Bezos announced his divorce from his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie. Sanchez, who is an Emmy-award-winning journalist and helicopter pilot, revealed in her first solo interview since the couple went public that they love spending time together and working together. She also praised Bezos for being a funny and goofy person who makes her laugh all the time.
"When I first heard his laugh, I was like, 'Whoa! What is that?' Now I love it. And if I'm at a party, and we get separated, all I have to do is wait a second and he laughs, and it's like, he's over there," said Sanchez in a January interview.
In a joint interview in 2022, Bezos stated his intention to donate most of his $124 billion fortune to philanthropy, with Sanchez elaborating on their approach to giving in an interview with WSJ. Magazine.
"Jeff has always told me, since I've known him, that he's going to give the majority of his money to philanthropy," she said. Sanchez emphasized the importance of strategic giving, adding, "You want to give money away, and you want to know that it's helping people and it's going to continue to help people and that it's going to the right places. You could give it not-strategically. You can just give it away! But, we take it seriously."
"We are dedicated to investing in individuals who are on the ground, working directly with the people whose lives we aspire to positively impact and transform," she expressed.
In a previous exclusive interview with CNN, Bezos had stated that his primary focus for philanthropy would be fighting climate change and supporting those who can help bridge the deep divide over social and political issues through donations. At the time, he did not reveal a detailed plan for distributing his billions and had not signed the Giving Pledge, a promise made by hundreds of the world's wealthiest individuals to donate the majority of their earnings to charitable causes.
The couple conducted the joint interview with CNN to discuss the Bezos Courage and Civility Award, which they had recently awarded to country music icon Dolly Parton, with a $100 million contribution towards her own charitable endeavors.
"The challenging part is figuring out how to do it in a leveraged manner," he explained about his philanthropic approach. "It's not easy. Building Amazon was not easy. It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart and hardworking teammates, and I'm discovering — and I think Lauren is discovering the same thing — that charity and philanthropy are very similar."
