Garner stated that she challenged her kids to find scientific evidence proving the benefits of social media use for teenagers before allowing them to use it. As of now, the children seem content with not having any social media presence. Regarding the feelings of Garner's children about not having social media accounts, she mentioned that her eldest child is thankful. She also expressed uncertainty about the future and whether she will be able to maintain the same stance with her younger children. Garner, who is 50 years old, also does not share any pictures of her children on her own social media profiles. She believes in protecting their privacy and has worked hard to maintain it. In a 2018 interview with E! News, the 13 Going on 30 actress emphasized her commitment to keeping her children out of the public eye and explained why she avoids sharing their pictures online.

Although Garner prioritizes her children's privacy, she has accompanied them to a few public events.
