Adrienne Bailon-Houghton Discusses New Mom Life and Seeking Advice from Kim Kardashian on Surrogacy
During an interview with Parade, actress-singer Adrienne Bailon-Houghton shared her thoughts on motherhood. Despite being the sister of Bailon-Houghton's ex-boyfriend, Kim Kardashian continues to be a trusted friend.
Bailon-Houghton revealed that The Kardashians star provided guidance before the birth of her own son, Ever James, via surrogacy in August 2022. "I didn't know anyone else who had experienced surrogacy except for Kim Kardashian," said the former Cheetah Girls member, who dated Kardashian's brother Rob for two years before their split in 2009. "She's amazing. She gave me a lot of information and insight, and I was so grateful for that because it really helped me on my journey - a journey that I thought would be awkward."
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians personality had two of her four children, namely Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 3, through surrogacy. Despite initially finding the process "strange," the 39-year-old star has no regrets.
According to Bailon-Houghton, the experience was "amazing," and she still maintains a positive relationship with her surrogate. She hopes that by speaking publicly about it, surrogacy will become more normalized and discussed in the Latino community, where it is not commonly talked about. "Sharing my story," she says, "could encourage more open conversations."
Bailon-Houghton desires to remove the negative connotations surrounding surrogacy, such as the belief that it is solely used for glamorous or vanity purposes. She believes that her own experience can help with this.
"For me, surrogacy was the last option, and it's great that people now realize it can be an option if you have exhausted all other possibilities," she said. She went on to say that while it wasn't her ideal scenario, having her son here with her makes her incredibly thankful. "Every time I look at my son, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude," the former The Real co-host remarked.
Additionally, Bailon-Houghton expressed gratitude for her recent partnership with Bounty. "As a new mother, I understand the significance of having efficient cleaning supplies that get the job done," she stated in her interview with Parade.
She even joked about being a "die-hard" fan of Bounty and mentioned that in her Latino household, the kitchen was where the majority of messes occurred, adding that "nobody gets out of the kitchen."
