Messi, who led Argentina to victory in the World Cup last year and is widely recognized as one of the greatest soccer players of all time, expressed his intention to play for the Major League Soccer club.

"I have made the decision to go to Miami," Messi stated in an interview with Spanish outlets SPORT and Mundo Deportivo earlier this month. "It's not completely finalized yet, there are still some details to sort out, but we have decided to continue my journey there."

According to the Miami Herald, Mas described the signing of Messi as "the one seminal moment" in the history of soccer in the United States.
