Legendary Director Officially Ousts Johnny Depp, Excludes Actor From Film Series
Johnny Depp, the acclaimed actor renowned for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, has achieved great success and amassed millions of dollars by seamlessly embodying diverse roles. With iconic characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka, Depp has cultivated a devoted fan base that has remained loyal despite his legal troubles.
Following a lengthy defamation trial that extended into the previous summer, Depp has recently concluded his legal battles. In December, he reached a settlement outside of court with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, who agreed to pay him $1 million. Since then, their paths have diverged. Heard has relocated to Spain and is actively involved in multiple Hollywood projects, including the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, slated for release later this year.
In contrast, Depp has relocated to Europe, stepping away from the Hollywood scene. He recently completed a film titled Jeanne Du Barry and is poised to direct a movie for only the second time in his career. However, reports suggest that major studios in the industry have effectively blacklisted Depp. Warner Bros. has removed him from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, replacing him with Mads Mikkelsen. Furthermore, Disney is moving forward with plans for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 without the presence of Johnny Depp, as extensively documented in previous reports.
Johnny Depp's Hopes Dashed: Excluded from Warner Bros.' Beetlejuice 2 Cast
Amidst fervent anticipation from Disney fans for a Johnny Depp reunion, insiders revealed that the actor's most likely involvement in a Hollywood project could have been Warner Bros.' Beetlejuice 2, helmed by his close friend and renowned director Tim Burton. However, it seems that this collaboration will not come to fruition.
As filming for Beetlejuice 2 is set to commence soon, Warner Bros. has confirmed several cast members, including Michael Keaton reprising his role as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter, Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice's wife, Willem Dafoe, Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz, and the recent addition of Justin Theroux.
For a significant period, Johnny Depp's name appeared on the film's IMDb cast list, fueling speculation of his involvement. However, when Justin Theroux joined the cast—a decision heavily influenced by Tim Burton—Depp was subsequently removed from the list. Despite Burton's assertion of their friendship, it appears that the director could not persuade Warner Bros. to bring Depp on board, or perhaps he couldn't convince Depp that returning to a studio that had already replaced him once before was worthwhile.
