Johnny Depp has announced the cancellation of several upcoming concerts with his band, Hollywood Vampires, following a foot injury he suffered. The 59-year-old actor took to Instagram to apologize to his fans for the postponement and explain the circumstances.
In his Instagram post, Depp expressed regret for the situation and revealed that he had fractured his ankle. He described it as starting with a hairline break but worsening between the Cannes Film Festival and the Royal Albert Hall events. The injury has necessitated a break from touring, as advised by his doctors.
Hollywood Vampires, the band in which Depp performs alongside Alice Cooper, Tommy Henriksen, and Joe Perry, will be affected by the cancellation of the concerts.
Depp concluded his message by expressing his sadness at being unable to travel and perform at the moment, as various medical professionals have strongly advised against any activity during his recovery period.
"We deeply apologize for not being able to perform in New Hampshire, Boston, and New York," Depp expressed in his statement, while also providing rescheduled tour dates at the end of his post. He assured fans that they would be treated to an incredible show during the upcoming European leg of the Hollywood Vampires tour and promised to deliver their absolute best when they visit the East Coast later in the summer.
The new dates on July 28, 29, and 30 will honor paid tickets from the canceled shows, as mentioned in Depp's message.
Concluding his statement, the guitarist expressed his sincerest apologies and sent his love and respect. He signed off with "J.D. x."
Following the concert cancellations, Hollywood Vampires are set to kick off their tour in Romania on June 8.
It's worth noting that Depp's band previously performed at a music festival in Portugal in 2016, a time when he faced initial domestic abuse claims from his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Depp's tour announcement comes shortly after his controversial appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival earlier this month.
During a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, Johnny Depp addressed questions from the media regarding his perceived boycott by Hollywood following his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. The actor responded candidly, stating that one would have to lack any sense of awareness to not feel like it was all a bizarre joke.
Depp mentioned being asked to resign from a film due to mere words floating in the air, indicating that he didn't currently feel boycotted. However, he clarified that he no longer dwells on Hollywood or has a strong need for it in his life, expressing a detachment from the industry.
The actor's appearance at Cannes came one year after his six-week trial involving Heard, where he accused her of defaming him in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed, where she identified herself as a survivor of domestic abuse.
