An upcoming Fox special titled "TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom" will explore the life of Britney Spears following the end of her 13-year-long conservatorship. According to a press release, the special will provide insight into her troubled marriage, estrangement from her family, concerning behavior, failed interventions, and her continued success in the music industry.
Britney Spears has previously expressed her distaste for documentaries about her life and conservatorship, referring to them as "humiliating" and "trash." In a since-deleted post on Twitter in November, she emphasized that she is a person, not a robot or science experiment, and that the documentaries failed to portray her as a valued soul. The Fox special is set to air on May 15.
Britney Spears also criticized those who created "the trashiest docs I've ever seen in my life," and pointed out that she felt deceived by the claim that the documentaries were made to help her. Although she did not mention any specific documentaries, three of the most well-known ones released during the Free Britney movement were FX and Hulu's "Controlling Britney Spears," the New York Times' "Framing Britney Spears," and Netflix's "Britney vs Spears." This movement gained momentum across the country before the end of Britney's conservatorship in November 2021.
