Pete Davidson has recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marking his debut in the mega-franchise's latest project.
Despite gaining recognition from his impressive tenure on Saturday Night Live, Davidson has also established himself as a proficient actor, landing roles in Trainwreck, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and even as the lead in The King of Staten Island.
In 2021, Director/Writer James Gunn included Davidson in the DC Universe as Blackguard in The Suicide Squad, though his character was killed within five minutes of screentime.
Having previously worked with Gunn, Davidson seized the opportunity to work with him once again in the director's other major franchise, which is still in the limelight.
Pete Davidson Joins MCU in Cameo Role Director James Gunn shared a selfie on Twitter from the set of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 featuring Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, and new MCU addition Pete Davidson.
Gunn confirmed in the post that Davidson had a cameo role in the movie, portraying one of the guards of the High Evolutionary in the main room of the villain's destroyed base:
"Here with my buddy Pete Davidson who dropped by to hang out and shoot a cameo (he's in the movie, but you'll have to keep an eye out to spot him...)"
Davidson was among a few DC actors who made an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with Gunn himself noting that at least three actors would be crossing franchises in the film.
Chukwudi Iwuji, who played the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, previously worked with director James Gunn on DC's Peacemaker as Clemson Murn before transitioning to the MCU.
Similarly, Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher-2) and Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) also made the jump after their performances in The Suicide Squad.
What's Next for Pete Davidson in Comic Book Movies? Despite having only a few minutes of combined screen time in both the Marvel Studios and DC Universe, many are wondering if Pete Davidson will land a more significant role in either franchise.
With numerous upcoming projects in James Gunn's DC lineup, Davidson could have a chance to take on a bigger part in one of the nearly dozen projects announced so far. Alternatively, he could follow in the footsteps of Sean Gunn, who is reprising his role as Weasel in Creature Commandos, and explore Blackguard's character more thoroughly in future DC films.
Moreover, the Multiverse Saga of the MCU is set to further expand in both Phase 5 and 6. However, with Gunn now serving as the co-CEO of DC Studios, fans may question whether Davidson will be given a bigger role in future MCU projects.
Regardless, Davidson's appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a delightful chance for him to join in on Gunn's exciting journey, which is already being hailed as one of the greatest films in the history of the MCU.
