Working alongside Lucy Gaez, who plays her daughter in the movie, Lopez appreciated the opportunity to experience her on-screen daughter "mouthing off" to her on set, only to come home to a similar experience. Despite the humorous aspect, the experience was transformative for Lopez and led to personal growth.
Lopez further explained that while filming The Mother, she began to think deeply about what she wanted her child to learn and who she wanted to be to them. As a result, she feels that she has become a better mother as a result of this new perspective gained during the making of the film.
