Billie Eilish defied the Met Gala's "no selfie" rule at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night, sharing a sneaky bathroom snapshot with Elle Fanning, Halle Bailey, and Maya Hawke. The "Bad Guy" singer, aged 21, proved her affinity for a good bathroom selfie, posting the mirror shot on Tuesday. In the photo, Eilish donned a gothic black lace gown and grinned while her friends, dressed in a variety of frilly white dresses, stood beside her.
Fanning, aged 25 and a star of "The Great," mimicked Eilish's smile, while Hawke, aged 24 and an actress in "Stranger Things," playfully stuck out her tongue. Bailey, aged 23 and the star of "The Little Mermaid," struck a bit of an attitude for the fun snapshot.
Eilish got creative with the "no smoking no vaping" sign on display, sharing a couple of her own "no smoking" stickers on her Instagram Story.
The Met, Vogue, and Anna Wintour implemented a strict "no-selfie" rule at the annual Costume Institute gala in 2015, prohibiting the use of phones for photography and social media inside the event. However, the rule has been continually broken every year since its inception. In 2017, Kylie Jenner set the bar high with her epic bathroom shot that included over a dozen celebrities and other notable guests.
Earlier in the evening, at the Met Gala, the "Happier Than Ever" singer flaunted her complete fashion look, featuring a high neck, an embellished tulle skirt, and a crystal harness.
To complement her edgy outfit, the Grammy-winning artist adorned dramatic lace sleeves, above-the-knee stockings, and towering platform heels, and completed her glamorous look with black eyeliner surrounding her eyes.
It was Eilish's third consecutive year at the Met Gala, and this year's theme honored the late fashion icon, Karl Lagerfeld.
During Vogue's live stream of the red carpet, Eilish mentioned that her gown was crafted using "all existing materials so we didn't have to waste a bunch of stuff — this all already existed, and [we] just wanted to be as eco-friendly as possible."
