Despite Al Nassr's loss to rivals Al-Hilal in a 2-0 defeat on Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to avoid receiving a red card after he pulled down an opponent by the neck. As former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo scored two penalties for Al Hilal, this resulted in Al Nassr's third defeat of the season and dealt a serious blow to their chances of winning the Saudi Pro League title.
During the match, with his team trailing 1-0 in the 56th minute, Ronaldo was in pursuit of a high ball when he jumped and landed on the back of an opposing player. He then proceeded to put his arm around his neck and pull him down to the ground. However, despite this action, the Portugal international only received a yellow card from Premier League referee Michael Oliver.
Al Nassr's recent problems were compounded by their defeat in the match. In the previous week, the club had parted ways with their head coach Rudi Garcia, amidst rumors of a strained relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Following Garcia's departure, Ronaldo shared an Instagram story, featuring a photo of him and Garcia, along with the message: "Pleasure to have worked with you. Wishing you all the best for the future."
Moreover, this season, Al Nassr has struggled to defeat their closest rivals, including Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Shabab, and has only managed to reach the final of the Saudi Super Cup, which they lost to Al Ittihad in January.
