Jennifer Lopez stars in the new action-packed Netflix movie, "The Mother". In the film's full trailer, the Golden Globe nominee plays an assassin who is compelled to leave her daughter behind due to the dangerous nature of her job. However, circumstances lead her to come out of hiding to protect her daughter.
In the thrilling trailer, Lopez's character declares, "I'm a killer. But I'm also a mother. And I will die protecting her." The movie's director, Niki Caro, known for her work on Disney's live-action "Mulan", describes "The Mother" as a unique combination of intense action and authentic emotion. Lopez, who is 53 years old, rises to the challenge with her portrayal of the lead character.
"She has all the qualities of an action movie hero, so it surprised me that Jennifer hadn't played this type of role throughout her career," says the director, referring to Jennifer Lopez. Although Lopez showcased her action abilities in the 2002 thriller "Enough," the director believes that Lopez's "legendary skill and precision" and her "strength as a dramatic actor" made her the perfect fit for the lead role in "The Mother."
Niki Caro, who is 56 years old and also directed Disney's live-action "Mulan," states that Lopez's experience as a mother was essential in bringing the film's emotional core to life. "I knew Jennifer was the only actress for the role," Caro adds.
The star-studded cast of the film includes Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael Garcia Bernal. The director wanted to create a movie that showcases a mom as the central character in a high-octane action-packed adventure, driven by her unwavering desire to protect her child.
"In most movies, mothers are relegated to supporting roles. This time, the mother is front and center, and she is a force to be reckoned with," says Caro. "With Jennifer Lopez at the peak of her abilities, it's a tribute to all mothers and audiences around the world."
