Fashion trends tend to be fleeting and can quickly become yesterday's news. People often buy trendy items only to lose interest once the trend fades away. However, Kim Kardashian has come up with an innovative solution to this problem: keep wearing them!
During a recent trip to Las Vegas with her children, Kardashian attended Katy Perry's concert residency at Resort World. While backstage, she took a photo with Perry, Sia, and Paris Hilton (a pop culture Mount Rushmore of sorts), but our attention was drawn to her choice of footwear - the hottest boot of 2017.
Kim Kardashian was sporting the iconic Manolo Blahnik collaboration boots from Vetements' spring 2017 collection, paired with a hot pink bodysuit from her own Skims line. At the time, Vetements was considered a rebellious and edgy brand, and their collection featured collaborations with several other labels, such as Levi's and Reebok. However, it was the thigh-high Blahniks, with their exaggerated proportions, that stood out as the most memorable pieces. Footwear News even named them the collaboration of the year, and celebrities like Rihanna and Kardashian's sister Kendall Jenner were spotted wearing them.
These boots became a symbol of a specific moment in fashion, yet Kim continues to wear them as if they are as versatile as a pair of Chuck Taylors.
Ahead of her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in 2021, Kim Kardashian was spotted wearing the boots with two different outfits while out and about in New York City.
Interestingly enough, there is no evidence of Kardashian wearing the pink boots during the peak of the trend in 2017, although she did wear the black version that year.
While she may not be the best candidate for a sustainability lifetime achievement award, at the very least, Kardashian is encouraging people to continue wearing their favorite old trends instead of letting them go to waste in the back of their closets.
